U.S Based Chinese National Handed Three Year Prison Term for Smuggling Fake Apple Products

Fake iPhones or iPhone clones are dangerously close to the real deal. The attention to detail is such that the fake iPhones sometime fool trained eyes. In the recent turn of events, a Chinese national based in the U.S has been sentenced to 37 months prison term for importing counterfeit Apple products.
The perpetrator imported iPhone and iPads from China into the U.S. Apart from the 37-month prison sentence, Jianhua Jeff Li will also get another year of supervised release. According to the Department of Justice, Jeff Li smuggled 40,000 fake Apple products from China to the U.S. He was also involved in smuggling labels and packaging container with counterfeit Apple trademarks.
Li shipped the iPhones without packaging and thus evaded detection by U.S Customs and Border Protection officials. Li used his company, Dream Digitals to smuggle “electronic devices and accessories including iPhones and iPads. Once received, the devices were packed and sent all across the U.S.
Jianhua “Jeff” Li, 43, was living in the United States on a student visa and has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to traffic counterfeit goods to smuggle goods into the United States, as well as one count of trafficking in counterfeit goods.”
CNET reports that more than $1.1 million in sales were wired from US accounts to overseas accounts controlled by Li. It is worth noting that Li’s associated were also handed over a prison sentence.
Li and his company Dream Digitals had worked with Andreina Becerra, Roberto Volpe, Rosario LaMarca and others on the scheme. Becerra, sentenced in October 2018, got three years’ probation; Volpe got 22 months in prison, and was also sentenced at that time; and LaMarca got 37 months in prison after being sentenced back in July 2017.If you lost data after you updated to a new iPhone, you can always use Gihosoft iPhone Data Recovery to get the data back from the old iPhone or backup. You may also like: iphonerecovery.com

Our Take

Apple’s devices are very much in demand and even used devices tend to fetch good value in the market. This is one of the many reasons why the iPhone is a thief’s favorite. Apple figures our among the world’s most counterfeited brands and the recent haul of fake iPhones doesn’t come as a surprise. Earlier this year, Apple thanked the Korean police for successfully foiling sale of counterfeit Apple products worth $892k. It is always advised to do due diligence before buying a new Apple Product.

Apple Patents Headphones That Can be Worn Both Ways

The US Patent and Trademark Office has published 42 new patents from Apple. One of the patents pertains to over-the-ear headphones by Apple. The unique feature of this headphone is that it is capable of detecting orientation and shutting itself off when the sensors detect the user is no longer present.read more:mp3boo alternatives

Apple’s patent talks about over-the-ear headphones which will adjust to your ears no matter how you put it. Typically headphone cups are marked ‘Right’ and ‘Left’. Wearing the headphones wrongly will result in a misfit and a lacking listening experience.

Apple’s patent shows off a pair of headphones that can be worn by the user in any orientation. Meanwhile, the earphones are equipped to automatically adjust the audio so that the right and the left audio are played as expected. It is worth noting that Apple did something similar to the lightning connector. No matter which way you insert it simply works.Sponsor ads:

The patent was first filed in Q3 2018 and is published today. Earlier this year the Cupertino company applied for a headphone patent that detailed collapsible design to fit inside a headphone carrying case. In this patent, Apple talks about orientation sensors which will determine whether or not the headphones are worn over the years, if not then the headphones are shut down to save power.

In this case, the sensors are used to determine which ear cup of a pair of headphones is positioned on which ear of a user. The resulting information is then used to divide stereophonic audio signals over the left and the right ear cups. Apple’s headphone patent is aimed at offering added convenience to the users just like the collapsible design patent and the lightning connector that was introduced years ago.

What’s the Secret About iOS 13 Privacy and Security Problem

Part 1. What Are iOS 13's New Privacy Features?

From the inception of iOS, Apple has insisted on giving its customers strong security features and privacy across its services and devices. Here, are some of the keynotes on the exciting privacy-related features of iOS 13, which were announced in WWDC 2019.
#1. Maps and Location

The new location feature get a good update with the release of iOS 13. It gives the options to change access from “Always” to “Only while using” and lets you instruct an app to use your location data only once. So an app will need to ask next time it wants to track your location. Also, it will show you a map of the location data an app has acquired and why each app needs to access to your location.

#2. Sign In with Apple

The all-new Apple sign-in feature allows you to sign in to apps, and services using your Apple ID and password. “Sign in with Apple” is similar to what we see on many online services that allow you to sign in to their services using your Facebook or Google credentials.

#3. HomeKit Protections

Through the HomeKit security upgrade, Apple is hoping to prove that privacy protection should not end with data encryption, but should apply to other aspects of life. Hence, the HomeKit will come with Routers, which is meant to protect all the home devices from external attacks.

#4. Find My

The new “Find My” combines the features of “Find My Friends” and “Find My Phone” into a single application. This new expanded app will run on macOS computers and iOS devices and would let you locate offline devices using beacons.

#5. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Tracking

Many iOS apps never ask for access to location information but use your Bluetooth and Wi-Fi networks to know your real location. These apps will now be prevented from accessing Bluetooth and Wi-Fi networks. Hence, every app that requires Bluetooth functionality must request for it.

Survey Claims iPhone Loyalty at an All-Time Low 2019

A new survey conducted by BankMyCell claims that iPhone’s brand loyalty has hit the lowest level among consumers since 2011.

In 2017, iPhone loyalty had reached an all-time high of 92 percent. This has now come down to 73 percent, the lowest since 2011.

The survey polled over 38,000 people who traded their iPhones since October 2018 in lieu of a new phone. As per the data, iPhone’s retention among consumers was down 15.2 percent compared with March 2018. The survey data suggests that 26 percent of people traded in their iPhone X to switch to a smartphone from different brand. In June 2019 alone, 18 percent iPhone users traded their smartphone for a Samsung device.

Retention among Samsung customers improved, with only 7.7 percent trading in their Galaxy S9 to switch to an iPhone.

The decline in iPhone loyalty among customers should not be surprising if one has been closely following what Apple has been doing over the years. Apple has not been innovating at the same pace as its competitors and many iPhone users are likely jumping ship to other smartphones which offer far more features all the while carrying a lower price tag.

There is also the fact that the survey only comprises of people who used BankMyCell’s trade-in and buyback service. The numbers are definitely going to be skewed due to this. While I do believe that people are leaving iPhones for smartphones that offer more value, I don’t think the number is anywhere as bad what the survey data shows.read more:top paid android games

How to Share One Pair of Powerbeats Pro Earphones With a Friend

Splitting a pair of Powerbreats Pro earphones between two people is perfectly possible thanks to their integrated H1 Apple chip, and it's a neat way of using the wireless features of the earpieces to share your listening experience.

Listen Together With One Pair of Powerbeats ProEarphones

There's nothing stopping you and a friend from each wearing a Powerbeats Pro earpiece to enjoy music or watch a movie together on your iPhone or iPad. Thanks to Automatic Ear Detection, both earphones sense when they're placed in an ear, regardless of whether they're attached to the same head.

The only caveat to sharing Powerbeats Pro between two people is that you're effectively splitting stereo channels, so you'll want to convert to mono audio. You can do that by following these steps:

Open up the Settings app.

Tap General and then tap Accessibility.

Scroll down to where it says "Mono Audio" and toggle it on.

When you're done sharing your AirPods with a friend, make sure to turn the Mono Audio setting back off so you get regular stereo sound when you're using both of your AirPods.

Share a Call With a Friend Using One Pair of Powerbeats Pro

Splitting a pair of Powerbeats Pro earphones between two people to take a phone call is a different situation that has one important drawback.

Although both earphones have built-in microphones, only a single mic can be active at any one time, so if you're sharing a pair with a friend, both of you can listen in on the call but only one of you will be able to talk back to the caller.

If you want to get to decide who take part in the conversation during a shared call, you can select which Powerbeats Pro earbud has the active mic.

To do so, open the Settings app on your connected iOS device and tap Bluetooth, then tap the circled 'i' icon alongside Powerbeats Pro in the Devices List. Then tap Microphoneand choose either the left or right earpiece. Also Read:Best free Beat making software

iFixit’s 2019 MacBook Pro Teardown Reveals Minor Changes to Butterfly Keyboard Material

Earlier this week, Apple announced a surprised 2019 MacBook Pro refresh with the focus primarily being on faster 6-core and 8-core Intel processors. There was another smaller change that Apple did not even talk about in its press release — a more reliable butterfly keyboard.

Apple said that it is using newer materials for the butterfly keyboard on the 2019 MacBook Pro which should make it more reliable in nature.

A teardown from iFixit has now revealed what underlying changes Apple has made to its butterfly keyboard. The design of the dome switch has been updated and there is a new clearer material for the keyboard cover switch. The older one was semi-opaque, “somewhat tacky, and feels like silicone.” The new material is “clearer and smooth to the touch.” Based on an FITR analysis, the new material is nylon while the older material was a complex polymer.

The keyboard dome switch has also been changed slightly. Apple is seemingly “using a revised heat treatment, or alloy, or possibly both.” iFixit is unable to determine the exact changes with their current equipment and it requires a deeper analysis.

iFixit does attribute some of the reliability issues with the butterfly keyboard to the metal switches.

If anything changes about the dome—if it’s cracked or deformed—the key may behave erratically. Likewise, if the prongs break or bend, the key stops working.

Ultimately, Apple seems to have made some minor changes to the materials it is using to make the butterfly keyboard on the 2019 MacBook Pro. It is unclear if these changes will also be applicable on the replacement 2018 and older MacBook models which use the butterfly keyboard.

The bigger issue, however, is that just like previous MacBook Pro models, the 2019 MacBook Pro requires replacing one entire half of the laptop instead of just the keyboard if anything goes wrong with it. No wonder then that the 2019 MacBook Pro has received a measly repairability score of 1 out 10.
We Want to Hear From You

Are you willing to buy the 2019 MacBook Pro despite the unreliable history of butterfly keyboards? Or are you willing to wait and watch as to how the new butterfly keyboard holds up in terms of reliability before making a decision?
