iMovie Update Arrives with Green Screen Effects, New Soundtracks and Bug Fixes
Apple’s iMovie app has now been updated to version 2.2.7. The latest update heralds with a slew of new effects, soundtracks, and support for images with transparent backgrounds. The green screen effect is designed to replace any green or blue background in your videos with custom images.

The iMovie app update offers 80 new soundtracks spread across different genres and lengths. The iMovie app also comes with a feature that allows you to add images with transparent backgrounds in your videos. This is especially useful if you want to keep a logo on the screen.

According to the changelog, iMovie update snags the following features,

Drop in still images with transparent backgrounds to use as logos or custom graphics on top of your video

Add photos as overlays to create picture-in-picture and split-screen effects
Choose to hide the border that surrounds picture-in-picture and split-screen effects

Instantly return to the edit screen of your project when switching back to iMovie from other applications• ClassKit support lets students deliver video assignments to teachers using the Schoolwork app

For users with videos in iMovie Theater, the Theater window is now accessible from the ••• menu at the bottom of the Projects screen

Sharing to iMovie Theater is no longer supported; save your movies and trailers to iCloud Photos to watch them on other devices including Apple TV

Resolves an issue that could lead to a black viewer when previewing your video fullscreen on an external display

iMovie started its life as a basic video editing tool and later evolved into a more advanced and professional video editing tool. It is also worth noting that Apple has removed the feature to share to iMovie Theater. Instead, all the movies and trailers will now be saved on iCloud Photos.

How to Share One Pair of Powerbeats Pro Earphones With a Friend

Splitting a pair of Powerbreats Pro earphones between two people is perfectly possible thanks to their integrated H1 Apple chip, and it's a neat way of using the wireless features of the earpieces to share your listening experience.

Listen Together With One Pair of Powerbeats ProEarphones

There's nothing stopping you and a friend from each wearing a Powerbeats Pro earpiece to enjoy music or watch a movie together on your iPhone or iPad. Thanks to Automatic Ear Detection, both earphones sense when they're placed in an ear, regardless of whether they're attached to the same head.

The only caveat to sharing Powerbeats Pro between two people is that you're effectively splitting stereo channels, so you'll want to convert to mono audio. You can do that by following these steps:

Open up the Settings app.

Tap General and then tap Accessibility.

Scroll down to where it says "Mono Audio" and toggle it on.

When you're done sharing your AirPods with a friend, make sure to turn the Mono Audio setting back off so you get regular stereo sound when you're using both of your AirPods.

Share a Call With a Friend Using One Pair of Powerbeats Pro

Splitting a pair of Powerbeats Pro earphones between two people to take a phone call is a different situation that has one important drawback.

Although both earphones have built-in microphones, only a single mic can be active at any one time, so if you're sharing a pair with a friend, both of you can listen in on the call but only one of you will be able to talk back to the caller.

If you want to get to decide who take part in the conversation during a shared call, you can select which Powerbeats Pro earbud has the active mic.

To do so, open the Settings app on your connected iOS device and tap Bluetooth, then tap the circled 'i' icon alongside Powerbeats Pro in the Devices List. Then tap Microphoneand choose either the left or right earpiece. Also Read:Best free Beat making software

iFixit’s 2019 MacBook Pro Teardown Reveals Minor Changes to Butterfly Keyboard Material

Earlier this week, Apple announced a surprised 2019 MacBook Pro refresh with the focus primarily being on faster 6-core and 8-core Intel processors. There was another smaller change that Apple did not even talk about in its press release — a more reliable butterfly keyboard.

Apple said that it is using newer materials for the butterfly keyboard on the 2019 MacBook Pro which should make it more reliable in nature.

A teardown from iFixit has now revealed what underlying changes Apple has made to its butterfly keyboard. The design of the dome switch has been updated and there is a new clearer material for the keyboard cover switch. The older one was semi-opaque, “somewhat tacky, and feels like silicone.” The new material is “clearer and smooth to the touch.” Based on an FITR analysis, the new material is nylon while the older material was a complex polymer.

The keyboard dome switch has also been changed slightly. Apple is seemingly “using a revised heat treatment, or alloy, or possibly both.” iFixit is unable to determine the exact changes with their current equipment and it requires a deeper analysis.

iFixit does attribute some of the reliability issues with the butterfly keyboard to the metal switches.

If anything changes about the dome—if it’s cracked or deformed—the key may behave erratically. Likewise, if the prongs break or bend, the key stops working.

Ultimately, Apple seems to have made some minor changes to the materials it is using to make the butterfly keyboard on the 2019 MacBook Pro. It is unclear if these changes will also be applicable on the replacement 2018 and older MacBook models which use the butterfly keyboard.

The bigger issue, however, is that just like previous MacBook Pro models, the 2019 MacBook Pro requires replacing one entire half of the laptop instead of just the keyboard if anything goes wrong with it. No wonder then that the 2019 MacBook Pro has received a measly repairability score of 1 out 10.
We Want to Hear From You

Are you willing to buy the 2019 MacBook Pro despite the unreliable history of butterfly keyboards? Or are you willing to wait and watch as to how the new butterfly keyboard holds up in terms of reliability before making a decision?

Concept Envisions iPhone 11 without the Ugly Camera Bump We All Hate

Leaked renders have already given us a look at how the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max will look like. From a design viewpoint, they are not really going to stand out, with the camera bump at the rear actually increasing in width due to the introduction of a third new ultra-wide angle lens.

It is understandable that due to physical limitations, Apple has to include a camera bump on its iPhones. But what if the 2019 iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max shipped without a camera bump? How would the triple camera setup then look like?

As envisioned by @PhoneDesigner in a couple of concept photos, pretty darn beautiful. Look at the concept photos below in which the iPhone 11 despite feature triple cameras has no hump…

…and now have a look at one of the leaked renders of how the iPhone 11 Max is actually going to look like.

The difference a lack of a camera hump at the rear makes is kind of crazy. Without the hump, the iPhone 11 in the concept has a very clean and modern looking design.

Now, granted the final iPhone 11 is definitely going to look much better than how it looks like in the renders. But even then, the concept photos definitely make us wish that Apple got around to releasing iPhones without a camera hump.
We Want to Hear From You

Apple could use smaller camera sensors to completely eliminate the camera hump on the iPhone lineup but that would end up having an adverse effect on the image quality. Will you be happy if Apple ended up getting rid of the camera hump on future iPhones at the cost of imaging performance?

How to Enable "Hey Siri" hands-free on a Mac

The latest version of Apple's "Hey Siri" feature works hands-free without being plugged into power, and it can be found in several recently announced Apple mobile products, including the fifth-generation iPad mini, third-generation iPad Air, and second-generation AirPods.

What's perhaps less well-known is that many of Apple's new Macs also support "Hey Siri" hands-free, meaning that users no longer have to click the menu bar icon or press a keyboard shortcut before they can start talking to the digital assistant.

What follows is a list of Macs that support "Hey Siri" hands-free, and below that you can find instructions on how to enable it on your machine. Note that future Mac models that include Apple's T2 security chip are likely to support the feature, too.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018)

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports)

MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2018)

iMac Pro
How to Enable "Hey Siri" hands-free on a Mac

Click the Apple () symbol in the top left corner of your Mac's screen and select System Preferences....

Click the Siri icon in the preference pane.

Tick the checkbox next to Listen for "Hey Siri".

Click Continue to follow the Siri setup process, repeating verbally the commands shown on the screen.

Click Done and then close the preference pane.

Now that you've enabled the feature, simply say "Hey Siri" to invoke the digital assistant and ask a question or give a command. If you're familiar with the Siri function on iPhone or iPad, you should find most of the same general commands work on Mac, too. For more information on how the feature can be useful on the desktop, check out our dedicated guide to using Siri commands in macOS.Sponsor ads:

How to use your Android smartphone as a security key

With two-factor authentication, you can additionally secure your online accounts. Now, Google goes one step further and allows you to use the Android smartphone as a kind of hardware key.

If you currently use two-factor authentication on Google, you will receive a web notification, an e-mail, a call or an SMS on your smartphone to confirm your identity when logging in or to deny access. An alternative for more security is to purchase a hardware key that uses Bluetooth, NFC or the USB port to verify your identity.

That's exactly what Google now offers and relies on your Android smartphone to become the hardware key. The company uses the FIDO2 standard for this purpose. To be able to use the new procedure, your smartphone must be equipped with Android 7.0 or a newer Android version. On PC you want to login to Chrome OS, Mac OS or Windows 10. Bluetooth must be supported and a compatible browser must be available.
How to activate the new function

Go to the Google security page

Activate two-factor authentication

Choose 2-Step Verification

Scroll down to Add Security Key

You will then be shown the list of devices that support the feature.

Selects the appropriate device and tap Add.

To use this feature, you need to activate Bluetooth and location on your phone so Google can establish the connection and check your proximity to the login location.

Log into your Google account on your PC

Check the notification on your Android smartphone.

Confirm that you are trying to log in.

Follows the further prompt on the display.

With the new method, your Google Account and the data it contains are a little better protected. Possibly Google extends the function still further and secures thereby also the login to other web pages.
